WHY ARMOUR?

Is Armour a Good Place to Train?

Armour is a highly effective training facility that focuses on hard, specific, and competition-based classes. Our Kids class, in particular, is successful due to its emphasis on developing grappling abilities through focused training sessions, rather than generic warmups or games.

TELL ME ABOUT MEMBERSHIPS?

Do you have a free trial?

Yes, Armour offers a first session free trial and regularly runs promotions for new members.

How long am I locked in for with my membership?

All our memberships are no-lock-in plans, allowing you to sign up and cancel at your convenience.

Do I need to pay a signup fee?

There is no signup fee at Armour.

​

What are your payment options?

We offer cash (monthly) and direct debit (fortnightly) payment options.

​

How do I sign up?

You can sign up online through our Facebook page, website, or QR codes available in the gym's admin office.

WHATS THE GO WITH TRAINING?

Do I need to be fit before starting Jiujitsu?

While being capable of exercising is recommended, jiujitsu can help develop your endurance and fitness over time.

What days do you recommend for a beginner?

We offer a dedicated beginner program on Wednesdays, but beginners are welcome to attend other classes with additional support.

​

How many days per week should I train?

Training at least 3 times a week is recommended for development, with 4-7 classes per week for those aiming to compete seriously.

What does a typical class look like?

-Warm up/Light Drilling

-2-4 techniques with a partner

-Specific Drilling from focus position

-Sparing Rounds

Do I need a uniform to train?

We do not enforce uniforms when you first sign up (You can just train in shorts and T-shirt)but we encourage members to purchase a uniform ASAP. Uniforms can be purchased in the gym.

HOW DOES GRADINGS AND COMPETITIONS WORK?

How long until I’ll be ready to compete?

Consistent training for at least 6 months is recommended before competing.

How often are there competitions?

There are typically 6-10 competitions held each year.

​

Do I need to compete?

While competing is encouraged for development, it is not mandatory.

​

How long does it take to get a new belt?

The time to progress to a new belt varies but typically ranges from 18 months to 6 years.

Is grading based on participation or development?

Progression in the ranking system is based on personal skill development rather than mere participation.

UNIFORM AND FACILITIES

Can I buy a uniform when I arrive?

Yes, we have a clothing store in the office for uniform purchases.

Do you have showers?

A shower is available for members' convenience.

​

Do you offer classes in all climates?

 Our facility is equipped with fans, air conditioning for summer, and heaters for winter.

​

Can I come and watch?

 Visitors are welcome to watch classes, with seating available for parents and guests.

​

Do you have water to fill up my drink bottle?

We provide a self-serve drinks fridge and a puratap for refilling water bottles.
